Today I started to set up the 12 ft 4x4 posts that will hold our entrance gates for our off grid homestead. I am sinking them 4 ft deep and back filling the hole with cement. And I found gold in the sand I dug out.It was hot. I mean it was scorching hot today. And humid. It was in the 90s in town but due to our sandy soil it gets about 110 degrees in the sun here. And there was no shade where I worked today so I had to take breaks.I also had to keep the camera far from my work area because it actually overheated in the sun earlier on. I kept the camera set up under the shadow of the solar panels for the day. That helped a lot.I am using a gas powered ice auger to dig down the first 3 feet. That is its limit. Then I am using a post hole digger to finish down to the 4 foot depth.Next I put some cement in the hole and put the post in. I am leveling off the post and securing it with T posts driven into the ground and fastened with scrap wood and screws to hold it in place while the cement sets.I put in one bag of cement followed by a lot of water. When that settles out I add one more bag of cement and more water. I am putting three bags of cement in each hold.I am putting all the sand I dig out into a wheelbarrow to pan fro gold later. During one break I aggressively and rapidly panned a half a shovel full of sand from the bottom of the hole and found at least 2 flakes of flour gold. This gives me hope that I can find a considerable amount here when I build my sluice box.Watch for part two of the video.....Thanks for watching. Today I started to set up the 12 ft 4x4 posts that will hold our entrance gates for our off grid homestead. I am sinking them 4 ft deep and back filling the hole with cement. And I found gold in the sand I dug out.

It was hot. I mean it was scorching hot today. And humid. It was in the 90s in town but due to our sandy soil it gets about 110 degrees in the sun here. And there was no shade where I worked today so I had to take breaks.

I also had to keep the camera far from my work area because it actually overheated in the sun earlier on. I kept the camera set up under the shadow of the solar panels for the day. That helped a lot.

I am using a gas powered ice auger to dig down the first 3 feet. That is its limit. Then I am using a post hole digger to finish down to the 4 foot depth.

Next I put some cement in the hole and put the post in. I am leveling off the post and securing it with T posts driven into the ground and fastened with scrap wood and screws to hold it in place while the cement sets.

I put in one bag of cement followed by a lot of water. When that settles out I add one more bag of cement and more water. I am putting three bags of cement in each hold.

I am putting all the sand I dig out into a wheelbarrow to pan fro gold later. During one break I aggressively and rapidly panned a half a shovel full of sand from the bottom of the hole and found at least 2 flakes of flour gold. This gives me hope that I can find a considerable amount here when I build my sluice box.
