This is our 2nd day stuck on the homestead. Today I made flour using animal feed grains. I hauled some fire wood over to our home heating pile. I cleaned up the off grid wood shop some. And I took care of some packages that we sold in our online store.

There were a few more cars today. Yesterday there was nothing on the roads at all. Today a few more people were venturing out.

We stayed home and worked on our homestead.

It was nearly 50 degrees today but the sun did not really come out for very long at any time so I needed a jacket all day.

I set up my grain mill in the wood shop because its the only place I have a sturdy counter top to work on that fits the mill clamps. Even then I used some lumber to help fasten it in place.

I tried making flour out of chicken scratch grain and it turned out pretty good. It has cracked corn and whole wheat in it. I think this will be very good in bread.

Next I ground up some oats with the hulls on. This did not turn out so well. I sifted it out after grinding but a lot of the oats ended up rolled rather than ground up and did not sift out. I can give what is left to the chickens this time. But I have to find a way to get the oats out of the hulls.

We could have bought rolled oats as well but they are not as fresh and dont last as long as whole grain oats for survival food.

Get the grain mills I am using here:

For corn, grains, nuts and coffee but a bit more course: https://amzn.to/3dtb8R6

Out in the middle of the yard I am cleaning up the fire wood pile as I am able to. The logs are still frozen to the ground so it will take some time.

I think we have enough fire wood to get us through the rest of the season. The days are warmer now so we are not burning as much fire wood. And I am getting a start on next year's fire wood pile already. I hope to get it all done this spring.
