I am building a split rail fence mostly from our own homestead materials. I want a nice looking fence along the front of our property to hide the electric fence.

I went out and cut some logs from dead standing trees in our wooded lot and hauled them out to our front property. Then I debarked the logs so they will not rot as fast.

At first I was using an ax that I always used for debarking trees. This is the Cold Steel Trench Hawk I got from Bison from Buggingin: https://www.youtube.com/user/Buggingin

This is a rugged and durable battle ax. I have used it for throwing, camping, hiking, survival outings and general homestead work.

You can get the Trench Hawk here: https://amzn.to/2xcTqRq

But then I remembered that I bought a draw knife last fall. I got that out and gave it a try. This tool really works nicely for debarking trees and cutting off small knobs. With the ax and draw knife the work went well.

I started out working on the ground but then tried some saw horses I have. But these are cheap plastic and I went back to the ground.
