I am cutting sawmill slabs into useful boards for a privacy fence using my old Foley Belsaw mill. I paid $10 for a huge load of slabs.Chris was over again to help out for the day. We sorted out some slabs which still had enough meat on them to be used for a fence. The plan was to cut off the long edges to make them straight. If I could get at least a half inch thick board all the way through, then it would work for the fence.Once one side was straight I flipped the board over and cut the other edge. This gave me a straight board at 6 - 8 inches width and 1/2 to 1 inch thick. Of course these are sawmill slabs so some are thicker in the center but that is fine. They will work for the fence.I will be mounting the flat faces outward to the road. After running a nice pile of boards through the mill we called it a night. Darkness was coming on soon. Chris and I finished sorting through the rest of the pile of slabs. We took out the boards that would make good boards for the fence. The rest went into a pile for fire wood.I think we will get 35 to 40 boards when we finish this pile. Thanks for watching.
