I finished building the one side of our greenhouse raised beds and then put plastic lining in it, ready for fill.

I have used free pallets to build the framing for the outside walls of our 40 inch high raised grow beds in our greenhouse. For the inside I used scrap lumber and half round cut offs from the lumber mill.

I got all of this material for free so the project is only costing me some screws and time to build.

I think the raised beds are looking good. I will take all the bark off the boards when they dry off some. This will preserver them better and extend their life.

I used some cross bracing to keep the boards from pulling apart under stress of the dirt inside.

Then I lined the entire thing with plastic drop cloth to keep the moist soil off the boards and reduce rot and decay.

I will be setting this up like Hugelkultur which uses layers of decaying trees and plant matter along with compost, soil and mulch. The decaying plant material will provide heat and insulation for the vegetables, extending our growing season. The material will also provide nutrients for the plants for years to come.
